1. Batman: Arkham
Take a moment, I can tell you're all gasping for air at this revelation. Seriously, are there any other superhero games that even come
close to the level of quality the Arkham saga has? Even in its
current divisive form, video game adaptations struggle to attain the level of storytelling and gameplay prowess exhibited by Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Montreal in their Arkham quadrilogy. But this wasn't always the case. Indeed, 2009's Arkham Asylum was never expected to be such a hit, at least within mainstream commentators. Batman had had so many misfires, botched releases and mediocre titles that many had thought the character, like Superman, just couldn't be nailed in a video game environment. Not only did Arkham Asylum prove all the naysayers wrong, it went on to spawn one of the most lucrative and critically-successful franchises of all time, completely eclipsing all superhero games before it and even challenging other genre-defining series' in the process. It's a marvel of modern gaming, and exemplifies how much of a shame it is that we can't see more characters getting the same treatment.
