Right now there aren't a whole lot of reasons to plump down your hard-earned cash on an Xbox One, but something I'd heartily recommend (if I could) Microsoft get more behind, is Ori & The Blind Forest. It might not initially be thought of as an 'indie title' thanks to having a hefty budget, but being it started as a small project split across many smaller studios all around the world - only for Microsoft to take note and provide the requisite funds for completion - make its sensibilities more in-line with a scrappier design ethos. That said, MOON Studios' creation is as proficient as they come, putting you in the lovably fuzzy shoes of Ori, a small lightning-fast catlike creature who you'll upgrade across the course of the game, alongside unlocking the world with various abilities, Metroid-style. A really awesome twist, is although the difficulty is exceedingly challenging in spots, the meter you have access to for your special attacks is also what you can 'cash in' to create a custom checkpoint - thereby dictating to some degree how infuriating a section will or won't be. Stuck on a particularly tight set of jumps? Stick a checkpoint down and go for it to your heart's content. The whole thing reloads instantly, Super Meat Boy-style (a feature that FAR too many platformers get wrong, throwing you back to some milestone half an hour previously), and alongside a drop-dead beautiful presentation, wondrous tonality and story that immediately plays your heartstrings like a fiddle, is easily one of the most overlooked gems of the modern era.
