Y'know how Nintendo are seemingly incapable of giving the legions of Metroid fans what they want? Well, one-man plot-machine Thomas Happ took it upon himself to create Axiom Verge, a tribute to all things Super Metroid. In everything from graphics that retain the same squared-off look to the world unfolding piece-by-piece - the map itself even looks exactly the same as Nintendo's 1994 masterpiece - your character abilities take the established moveset of Samus, before expanding on them in many awesome new ways. The super old-school look and feel of everything won't be for everyone, but if you're up for a nostalgia/retro-trip back to a time when the industry was stretching its legs and seeing what it was capable of - alongside some of the most satisfying side-scrolling blasting in years - Axiom Verge encapsulates that fervent time in every fibre of its being, resulting in an old school itch-scratcher of the most memorable kind.
