12 Best Indie Games Of 2015 (So Far)

6. You Must Build A Boat

Too many naff mobile games have sullied the entire platform, as you'll be hard-pressed to find something that's both initially appealing and that doesn't chew your arm off with micro-transactions or 'premium' payment plans. Bethesda's free Fallout Shelter was one such great release back in June (a game that lets you buy more currency if you want, but also lets you work your way to the top as well), but its EightyEighty Games' You Must Build A Boat that nails everything gaming can do very well on mobile. By focussing on the pick up n' play aspect of how people play portable titles, YMBAB is a heady mix of first going out on short n' snappy quests - represented by matching tiles to do everything from swing swords to blocking attacks and unleashing magic spells - alongside assembling your vessel through every item and piece of gold you come back with.
As a puzzler it's supremely polished with a really great learning curve, and outside of combat you'll whizz through menus, speccing your ship and talking to an ever-expanding crew, all the while seeing it get bigger and bigger. A basic concept executed on perfectly, with a sense of longevity that appeals to play sessions of any length, YMBAB is one of only a few mobile games genuinely worth your time.
