3. Nex Machina

Nex Machina is the latest sci-fi shooter from Super Stardust and Resogun developers Housemarque, and true to form, it's an insanely addictive, visually thrilling twin stick blast-a-thon.

One of the best things about this game is its accessibility, with players encouraged to initially tackle the game on its lowest difficulty in order to get a lay of the land, and then progressively work their way up to the more challenging ones.

To that end, Nex Machina's five levels will only last around an hour on your first run, but the incentive to keep replaying is strong thanks to the savage difficulty and the desire to keep one-upping your own score.

Chaotic, beautiful and enormously satisfying, this is one of the best arcade shooters on any platform in years.
