Final Fantasy XV commanded the spotlight like no other entry in the franchise has in over a decade, but that also meant the turn-based, back-to-basics delights of World of Final Fantasy got almost completely ignored.

And that's a crying shame, because if you had to draw up a list of what would go into a love letter to Final Fantasy fans, they're all right here - plus some unexpected extras. Ostensibly, this is Final Fantasy by way of Kingdom Hearts, a gloriously fun story excuse for two fresh-faced newcomers to venture through a world dominated by characters from 30 solid years of Final Fantasy history.

Cutesy chibi redesigns of everybody from Tidus to Sephiroth? Done. The first turn-based Final Fantasy since 2001? By all means. A Pokémon-style 'catch 'em all' framework that feeds back into your attacks and features monster cameos from almost every single game? Oh.hell.yes.
