12 Best Western-Themed Video Games Ever

10. Gun

Red Dead Redemption
Activision

Released five years prior to a certain epic from Rockstar Games, Gun blew the dust off what to expect from a Western gaming experience, breathing life into the genre on next gen consoles.

At it’s quite brutal heart, Gun is an open-world adventure with a lot of grime under its finger nails, relentless in its pursuit to continually blast players with innovative ways to have fun on the frontier. The story itself is a standard good versus band of bad bastards tale, but it’s the gameplay that makes this one a winner.

What made Gun such a success back in 2005 was the multiple ways to kill, be it by a blast of a shotgun or slice of a cavalry sword, made all the more interesting by allowing players to switch between anything from a first, third, or overhead perspective depending on the weapon you’re wielding. Handy when you get the chance to scalp someone.
