12 Big-Budget Video Games That Launched Completely Broken

7. Alpha Protocol

Chances are by now you'll know developer Obsidian from the utterly brilliant South Park: The Stick of Truth, but in the run-up to getting back in the good-books of gamers everywhere, they tried their hand at this rather underrated - yet still incredibly broken - stealth-action RPG. On paper the very idea of a Mass Effect-style conversation system twinned with gameplay that would either turn into the stealthiest parts of Splinter Cell or the most firepower-fuelled of Metal Gear depending on how you specced your character was total dynamite. Sadly in reality some hilariously immersion-breaking errors would show up at the worst times, including faces not animating, grenades not going off, guards getting stuck on patrol and some enemies actually being invulnerable at certain distances until the game 'decided' you were close enough to hit them. Such a missed opportunity, AP was still a great experience out of sheer experimentalism, it's just a shame Obsidian are very unlikely to ever return to it.
