12 Biggest Missed Opportunities In Gaming History

7. Mass Effect 3's Ending

Possibly the worst video game ending of all time - if we take hype, expectation and lying to the public into account - Bioware's trilogy-capper of a finale remains a blot on the otherwise five-star Mass Effect franchise.

Coming after years of speculation as to just how the grand tale of Shepard, his crew and humanity versus the unstoppable threat of the Reaper invasion would go, we were told it categorically wouldn't be "an A, B or C ending".

And do you know what they gave us? A raw, straight-up, absolutely bonafide 'A, B, C ending'.

Quite literally the same scene with a smattering of coloured filters applied to create different-looking explosions, the feedback was so cataclysmically negative, Bioware issued free DLC to quell the backlash, lost almost every key employee who worked on the project as they all abandoned ship in the years that followed, and stayed away from the Mass Effect name for almost half a decade until things finally simmered a little.

Whether Mass Effect Andromeda turns everything around is quite simply whether or not this franchise makes it out of 2017 alive.
