Have you seen the price of the average game? It's 60-odd quid, and that's before you look at the likes of Destiny or Evolve's special edition which ranges over the 100s. In a climate where the game's themselves aren't offering anything particularly new, yet the thing that does advance is graphical wallop and overall production value through art assets and rendering - it only means you're paying far more buck for far less bang, and when did the law of diminishing returns ever work out in the long run? Some of the best experiences you could have over the last few years were indie titles, as good gameplay doesn't need pyrotechnics to catch your attention. Just look at Hotline Miami - it's a blocky over-pixellated mess (to most) but it plays like a neon-soaked fever-dream purpose-built to dance on your primal cortex. When was the last time you actually thought a £/$60 game was worth the money overall?
