2. The Evil Within

Shinji Mikami, the man who defined survival horror in video games with the Resident Evil series, is back doing what he does best with the upcoming psychological horror The Evil Within. Not since Silent Hill has a game evoked feelings of creepiness and dread like the gameplay Evil Within has shown. Little about the actual story is known, but based on gameplay footage released in the past couple months, Evil Within could live up to the horror hype that its initial trailer promised back in April of last year. What better way to give gamers an initial shock than by releasing a prologue level that introduces the atmosphere - and more importantly the monsters - of the game? It could simply be a quick roam around a mansion (akin to the first Resident Evil game) where gamers play an entirely new character not related to the full game. Throwing in a few clues and hints towards what exactly the story is all about will get the adrenaline pumping for even more Evil Within. This spiritual successor to the Resident Evil series needs all the attention it can get, and a separate level launched before the full game would help generate a lot more sales.
