12 Bizarre Japanese Video Games You Won’t Believe Exist
3. School Days
This interactive drama game is a twisted, anime-style variant on Telltale games like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. But if you thought those games leaned a bit too heavily towards excessive violence, then you should probably give this one a miss. The story follows the burgeoning relationship between high school students Makoto and Kotonoha. There isn't much gameplay as such, apart from you making crucial decisions for the characters that affect how the plot unfolds. But while this may seem like a goopy teen drama, it's filled with many more bad endings than good ones, most of which end in death for one or more characters by smashed heads, cut throats, falling under trains and other woopsies. The barbaric endings just seem to come out of nowhere, and seem incredibly at odds with the mostly vapid plot.
