12 Characters That Should Return In The Next Mortal Kombat Game

"Finish him!"

The universe of Mortal Kombat has never come up short for a selection of characters; in fact the franchise has a plethora of them at its disposal, whether they be mainstays, obscure, unloved, one-dimensional or downright cheesy. What is fascinating about these characters, isn't just their expertise in martial arts and fantasy elements during gameplay, but for their - at times - intricate motives or intentions and developed backstories. It's interesting how the franchise has conceived such a variety of characters, whilst some of them have been meticulously fleshed out in either terms of their respective stories or through means of gameplay, others are left wanting for some much needed development. Potential lies heavy with some of these kombatants. With rumours swirling over the past year in regards to a new instalment to Mortal Kombat (Executives at Warner Bros. mentioning a game in development as well as Kiefer Sutherland stating he has completed voice work for an unannounced MK title), we've detailed 10 characters who you'd maybe love to see get their moment to bask in the spotlight once again. In terms of keeping this somewhat interesting, omitted from this are characters who comprised the roster of 2011's Mortal Kombat 9 and characters who subsequently became downloadable content. Taking the franchises old canon into account and not the alternate universe of the reboot, we've scoured the Krypt and gone on to dig up characters from previous generations of Mortal Kombat who remain in their yet to be awakened slumber. Cue the list!
