12 Gaming Predictions For 2020 (Now E3 Isn't Happening)
1. E3's Future Remains Sketchy Throughout 2020
And finally, we circle back to the E3 show itself.
Though the ESA has already issued a statement "confirming" that E3 2021 will go ahead, they also seem to suggest that it will undergo some significant alterations, "as a reimagined event that brings fans, media, and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry."
Many fans and analysts have already been considering whether or not this year's cancellation, combined with the conference's decreasing relevance in recent years, could very well signal the end of E3 as we know it.
With Sony no-showing the last two E3s and the ESA being publicly criticised for their unintentional leaking of over 2000 journalists' data, the cancellation is already being called E3's death knell by some.
Though it's certainly possible that the 2021 show does indeed go ahead, if the various digital events currently being conceived to replace the 2020 show are a success at a considerable lower cost, don't be surprised if the likes of Ubisoft, Microsoft, and so on simply decide not to participate in a formal capacity anymore.
Time will tell, but the outlook for E3 has never been bleaker than this.
