12 Great Video Game Characters Who Deserve A Comeback
9. GLaDOS - Portal
The Portal games stand as an example as to why players value quality over quantity in their games. Despite their short stories and limited resources on display, they are widely praised for their tight gameplay, innovative puzzles and surprisingly good sense of humour. That humour is largely thanks to players' interactions with GLaDOS.
Widely revered as the highlight of the Portal games, GLaDOS is an AI computer system that is just as entertaining as she is deadly. Unlike other AI in pop fiction, like SHODAN from System Shock or HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, GLaDOS has a more distinct personality to her.
She is a witty, manipulative, passive-aggressive, narcissistic and sinister individual. All the things you don’t want in a real-life computer system, but everything you could hope for in the main antagonist of a video game. Despite players defeating her in Portal 1, they were overjoyed to see her return in a much more intimidating form in the sequel.
Valve have been holding out on creating a third Portal game, but fans remain hopeful they will return to the series and get to take on GLaDOS and her numerous challenges one more time.
