Implementing the sublime gameplay from their Street Fighter series, X-Men: Children of Atom let you choose from either one of the six titular Marvel superheroes or one of four of their supervillain nemeses. Basing itself on the gameplay principles of Capcoms more celebrated beat em up franchise, X-Men provides every second of comic-strip mayhem you would expect from this clash of Marvel lore with Street Fighter mechanics. In the game, players build up their X-Power gauge which lets your fighter access his locker of potent special attacks and moves which can be used to change the tide of battle. Based on the Fatal Attractions comic, the game stays faithful to its source material while still being a highly enjoyable beat em up in its own right. The sub-boss and primary antagonist Juggernaut and Magneto respectively are unfortunately not playable, but offer a stiff enough challenge to give you a genuine sense of accomplishment after conquering the arcade mode. The success of this game was essential in Capcoms decision to delve back into the Marvel universe, directly leading to eight further Marvel-Capcom games (one of which is featured later in the list).
