8. "Dancing Mad" - Final Fantasy VI's Final Boss Kefka Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbXVNKtmWnc Ah. I can hear the gasps of breath now. You wont have to go far on the internet to find someone who would place this theme at #1 on this list. Or #2. Or #3. But #8!? Make no mistake about it, "Dancing Mad" raised the bar for Final Fantasy music. At 18 minutes long, quite suddenly the recurring, minute or so loops that had been battle themes up until then became something else. Something epic and theatrical, a theme truly worthy of one of Final Fantasy's most beloved "big bad"s. Why not higher then? Going back to earlier, with this, at least somewhat, the battle made the theme. Fighting the 4 stages of Kefka, the music changing with each one is a fantastic idea that would become a staple of later games to come, however the music on its strikes me as too chaotic and disjointed to be worthy of a higher spot. I feel it also lacks amalgamation from one form into the next. Still one of the greatest pieces in the series and historically unrivaled, if "Dancing Mad" could've held my attention more astutely, I'd place it higher in the list.
