From old-school Parisian love stories to one that's drenched in film noir, and that perfect 'one man and his woman' tale that's done the rounds a thousand times. The writers at Remedy really love their cinematic storytelling conventions, although with Max Payne the vast majority of his dialogue was reconciled to cutscenes comprised of comic strips. However that helped serve the way Max and Mona were shown and introduced together - the latter literally being a mysterious femme fatale that occasionally emerges from the shadows and slowly dominates Max's life. There's a great moment in MP2 where Mona essentially returns from the dead, only for Max to question whether or not he's seeing a ghost. The whole thing climaxes (in more ways than one) when the two of them meet back up in person, and Mona once again exudes all the qualities of the alluring temptress both Payne and those controlling him just couldn't get enough of.
