12 Harsh Truths You Don't Want To Admit About Video Games

11. Video Games Are Horrendously Overpriced

Shopto Video games have always been expensive, and there's a strong argument to say that most games bought on launch just aren't great value for money, especially with stores charging up to £50 for a PS4 or Xbox One title. Plus, who can remember the days of the N64, where it wasn't uncommon to see a new title retailing for £60-65? Though plenty of games spend 20 or 30 hours in our consoles being played through, there's little more frustrating than paying £50 for a new game only to find that you've finished it after 7 hours, and there's really not much else to do warranting another play-through (Infamous: Second Son, though offering a Good/Bad dichotomy, was really a victim of this). Gamers aren't totally left to waste their money, though: they can sell it on, of course, or trade it in. Even though we can do this or simply wait for a price drop, some games are just so awesome-looking that we can't wait, and when we throw down our £50, we have a certain expectation that a game is going to get enough use out of us to be worth that. If a game lasts under 10 hours, how's about dropping the price to £35-40? As long as gamers keep shelling out full price it'll never happen, but it's something we'd love to see, because £7 for each hour of play just isn't good value no matter how you slice it.
