3. EA Sports UFC 4

A surprisingly great fighting game even for non-UFC fans, EA Sports' take on the license is a brilliant mash of brutally effective strikes, out of nowhere knockouts and intense submission holds.

UFC 3 was sadly victim to a microtransaction-fuelled Ultimate Team mode, but you could totally ignore this and enjoy an exemplary game engine and visuals instead.

For UFC 4, EA are bolting on a career mode centred on Jorge Masdival (who as soon as he was announced as the cover star, suffered the "Cover Curse" and lost his next fight). Still, Masdival made Earth-shaking waves with a flying knee knockout back in January, and that animation can already be seen in the reveal trailer.

How EA balance a whole game around a guy who can knock people out in a few seconds with a running start is something we'll just have to wait and see.
