12 Killer PS4 Features We're Still Waiting For

9. Support For MP3/Video & External Storage

Another mind-blowingly absent feature is the lack of support for music and video file formats, a rather crass calculation on Sony's part to try and get users to sign up for their Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services. Given that this is a basic feature and one of the most popular aspects of the PS3, it's shocking that Sony thought they could get away with this, though due to thousands of customer complaints, apparently it is going to get patched in the near future (some suspect with the impending PS4 update for the Japanese launch this week). Not being able to play music and video files ties into the PS4 not being able to support external hardware, such as hard drives and USB pen drives, which could contain said video or audio. Sony apparently underestimated how important the feature is to players, who like to think of their consoles as "media centers" rather than mere gaming consoles. In addition to this, the audio support should extend to allowing audio to be played during games, a feature that was introduced for the PS3 but could disappointingly only be used with certain games. For the PS4, currently only members of Music Unlimited are able to set their own custom soundtracks, which is really, really lame.
