12 Most Bizarre Boss Battles In Video Game History
12. The Slot Machine - Starfox
Something went seriously terribly wrong in the space-time continuum for this to have happened. A moment ago you were flying through an asteroid field, when a great big silver phoenix appeared out of nowhere and seemingly destroyed you. But you survived, and now you're flying through a nauseatingly distorted version of space, blasting paper planes against a backdrop of smiling moons; it's the psychedelic silliness of magic mushrooms tainted with the sickening wobbliness of having drunk way too much. When you get through the strange sequence - probably feeling a bit woozy and seasick - you are confronted by none other than a giant slot machine floating around in this interstellar nightmare. The slot machine doesn't attack you as such, and to 'beat' it you just shoot its arm to try and get three sevens to appear on its display. The madness is accentuated by the musical accompaniment of a sixteen-bit 'When The Saints Go Marching In'. Once you get the three sevens, you don't return to the main game, but instead the credits start rolling even though you were nowhere near the end of the game. You wait for the credits to end, start shooting 'The End' letters, and then the whole distorted sequence starts all over again. You can't escape this off-kilter dimension, which effectively means that the giant slot machine has beaten you in the most trollish possible way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUSpqMtTMWU
