12 Most Impactful Games Of The PS4, Xbox One And Nintendo Switch Era

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Setting New Standards

The Witcher 3
CD Projekt RED

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was one of the best games of 2015 and is still widely cited as one of the best games ever made.

It is by far one of the most ambitious and most immersive action role-playing games of its generation thanks to its incredibly detailed open world, but what earned it the most praise was its narrative. The main story itself is deeply engaging and interesting while the numerous side quests and Witcher contracts help flesh out the rest of the world and give players a sense of how dangerous it is to be a Witcher.

The game received further praise for both of its expansion, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and has benefited from increasing popularity outside of gaming, thanks to Netflix adapting the books the game is based on into a television show with multiple series planned for the future.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt raised the bar so high that it completely transformed the level of expectations gamers now have for AAA games from major developers. Hopefully, other studios will follow CD Projekt Red’s example and deliver the best possible versions of their games that they can.
