It's been a common comment among PS4 owners online that they've ended up using their console more for graphically undemanding indie games than technically intensive AAA titles, something of a mark against blockbuster titles and a cause of celebration for the little guys everywhere. Given how many high-budget PS4 games have fallen well short of the mark this year (Watch Dogs, Destiny, Driveclub, Assassin's Creed: Unity and so on), it's fallen to creativity and ingenuity to entertain gamers rather than money-driven visual feasts. As such, the likes of Trials Fusion, Pure Pool, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Oddworld: New N Tasty and countless others have flourished, with their enticingly low price points and small file sizes allowing for cheap, easy access. In fact, more than half of Metacritic's top 20 PS4 games consists of indies. Countless PS4 owners have surely poured more hours into trying to perfect every Trials map and capture every last Mudokon in Oddworld than they have contending with Unity's countless glitches or trying to connect to a server in Driveclub, and if they haven't, they absolutely should. This is the sort of gameplay players should be rewarding: thoughful and usually relatively bug-free, while their slicker, more expensive competitors get complacent and release frequently broken wares.
