In which great expectations meet cold reality.

Kingdom Hearts I & II had two of the best secret boss battles in gaming - a pair of challenging, nerve-wracking duels against Final Fantasy VII's Sephiroth, one of the most famous villains in all of gaming. Naturally, it was easy to assume we'd be getting a trilogy topping fight against the platinum-haired bastard in the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III.

Instead, we got Dark Inferno - a brand new character with no connection to the story who exists solely to provide a challenge in the endgame.

Going up against Dark Inferno was a soul-crushing moment for those who had been anticipating a repeat of two of gaming's greatest boss battles, and a final affirmation that Nomura and his team had no interest in providing for the Final Fantasy fans that made up a large part of Kingdom Hearts' audience.
