12 Most Painfully Disappointing Video Game Boss Battles

8. Mutated Jack - Resident Evil 7

It's rare to be able to pick the exact moment a game jumps the shark - it's usually the case that poor level design, unfair mechanics or even simple technical issues slowly strangle the life from a game until it becomes impossible to enjoy.

The kind people at Capcom, however, clearly marked Resident Evil 7 with a boss battle so laughably generic that it might as well have been replaced with a splash screen that read "You can stop playing now! We've run out of ideas!"

Arriving around 2/3 of the way through the game, the boss fight against Mutated Jack is exactly the sort of rote, unimaginative schlock that the game had been so good at avoiding up to that point. A dull, "shoot the glowing weak spots to win" arena fight, Mutated Jack signifies the lack of innovation that plagued the final third of RE7 .

While it is undoubtedly disappointing that Capcom couldn't maintain the the high standards of the game's first half-dozen hours all the way to the end, at least they were decent enough to let us know when to call it a day.
