3. You Asked For It - The Evil Within
More than just another difficulty level players unlock after beating the game for the first time, Akumu mode - which literally translates to "nightmare" - ups the challenge of the original Evil Within to the nth degree.
Already a hard game, playing on this mode almost guarantees that enemies will kill you in one hit. Not only that, but sneaking is almost rendered useless, as the monstrosities you're fighting are super aware of their surroundings, and strike way faster than you can dodge.
To make matters worse, the traps that used to show up a couple of times per level now litter every square inch of them, and can result in frustrating deaths - especially when you stumble straight into a bear trap during the final stages of a difficult boss battle.
Considered one of the first brutally punishing challenges of the current console generation, The Evil Within's Akumu mode still hasn't been surpassed in the years since its release.
