Switching gears to something you might not even have heard of, Hotline Miami-publisher Devolver Digital sure know how to pick 'em as they snatched up and put out Vlambeer's latest arcade shooter. Mentioned in the previous entry, the new(ish) genre of roguelikes is starting to catch on, influencing developers to find ways to make sure something like failure, loss or death in a game actively factor into your progression, rather than just providing a restart prompt and a total loss of momentum. Luftrausers is no roguelike, instead it's an aerial blaster with an exquisite sense of physics-based gameplay. Playing as a small plane defending against infinite waves of enemy attackers, the only progression you'll make is seeing how far you can go, unlocking new weapons and plane parts along the way, before jabbing the restart button and going again. It might not sound like much of a campaign, but it's not supposed to be. Instead Luftrausers provides the perfect hop-in, hop-out gameplay loop, bringing about an insatiable itch for 'just one more go' as soon as you're brought down. It's not going to appeal to everyone, but once you get the hang of how your craft dives and swoops through the air, you'll be carving out beautiful swathes of destruction in minutes. Oh, and it's powered by this stupidly gnarly theme. If you liked Hotline Miami's soundtrack or fancy banging your head to something, give this one a spin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnAKPTa8K2E
