Confirmation, if any were needed that you don't need flashy graphics or even 3D polygonal models to make a brilliantly addictive title. As basic as they come, developer Mark 'Messhof' Essen's critical darling sees you simply taking on another stick figure-like opponent with nothing but your quick reflexes and a couple of swords. You'll start out chucking them at each other and ducking under a couple of swipes, maybe even landing a sweep-kick or diving lunge to knock them down - but the great thing is underneath that is a three-level sword-on-sword duelling mechanic, the winner and loser of a clash being decided by whether or not your blades are matching heights. Factor that into the middle of a game that runs at lightspeed at all times, and even though it may look like it's been programmed into a particularly large potato, Nidhogg's potential for worldwide multiplayer domination is already underway.
