12 Ridiculous Video Game Movies You Didn't Know Were Happening

Because someone thought the world needs an Angry Birds movie...

It's taken several decades, but yes, it finally appears that Hollywood is starting to take video games seriously as a viable revenue stream ripe for adaptation. After years of having to suffer through the likes of Super Mario Bros, Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and everything Uwe Boll has ever made, studios actually look like they're putting as much effort into Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted and so on as they would any other big-budget tentpole. As encouraging as that is, it goes without saying that there are also a ton of upcoming video game movies which probably shouldn't exist, because it's damn-near impossible to figure out how they're going to translate from the PlayStation to the cinema. Whether it's the minimal premise of a smartphone game or the nature of the gameplay itself, these games are going to make for some incredibly weird, quite possibly terrible movies, unless they demonstrate the necessary self-awareness to succeed. Though many of these projects have stalled many times, they're all going to happen at some point, because there's just too much money to be made for them not to, even if the end result sucks. From absurdly successful sandbox games to racing simulators, classic arcade games and decidedly more cinematic fare, here are 12 ridiculous video game movies you didn't know were happening...
