12 Things We Learned From Nintendo's Super Smash Bros Reveal

11. The 3DS Version Will Run At 60 Frames Per Second

A chaotic, fast-paced fighter like Smash Bros. pretty much requires a steady frame rate to be an enjoyable and fair experience. Having slowdown occur when there's too much action on the screen wouldn't just be distracting visually, it'll throw players' timing off. It's good news then that the 3DS version will join its Wii U brother in running at a silky smooth 60 FPS. What's even better is that this will be the case even in 3D, which is quite an accomplishment considering the extra strain displaying 3D images puts on the hardware. Compromises had to be made in order to achieve this, however. Support characters summoned by collecting Assist Trophies will run at 30 FPS. It's a small change that will most likely have a negligible impact on the gameplay. As long as the fighters themselves run at 60 FPS then it'll be the fluid portable fighting game every 3DS owner and their mother will want.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
