Another entry from the bizarre world of the Pokémon movies, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew opens over 1000 years in the past with Sir Aaron and his trusted companion Lucario. The pair are sensitive to 'aura', an invisible energy emitted by all objects which gives them a variety of abilities, such as mind reading, prediction, and attack and defence in battle.

In this setting, Sir Aaron sacrifices himself to prevent a war between two rival nations, but not before encasing Lucario - who believes Sir Aaron is abandoning his post - inside his sceptre.

Back in the present day, Lucario is released by Ash and is immediately hostile, citing his inability to understand the relationship between Ash and Pikachu as well as still being bitter towards Sir Aaron's believed retreat as the reason. This changes upon Lucario's discovery of a message left by Sir Aaron, revealing how much he considered Lucario as a friend, not just a Pokémon.

Meanwhile, the Tree of Beginning - a crystal mountain location that houses the three Regis and keeps them at peace - becomes unstable and threatens to destroy the ecosystem contained inside, and release the Legendary Titans. Lucario, much like Sir Aaron, sacrifices himself using his own aura, revitalising the Tree and restoring peace to the Titans.
