12 Unbelievable Indie Games That Deserved Your Attention In 2013
11. Cookie Clicker (PC)
What can be said about Cookie Clicker? It's a browser-based game where, ultimately, you click a big cookie to produce more cookies. But it follows the adage that sometimes, simple is best. Even if it's not the best though, Cookie Clicker is impossibly addictive. Before you realise it, you've clicked that one big cookie enough times that you can buy a clicker that clicks it for you. Next, you've got a small batch of helpful grandmas who make them for you, then your first cookie farm. Things spiral out of control, your grandmas have turned in to a communal hive-mind that you must constantly appease and you're doing that by turning antimatter in to cookies. Oh, and five hours have passed. With achievements that require you to reset the game multiple times thanks to some added perks if you do so the game's replay value is ramped up. It's consistently being developed, with plans to include an adventuring dungeon side-game meaning that Cookie Clicker has made its mark in standing out from the many free-to-play games that come out every year, particularly as it boasts an offline mode, which is perfect if you want to click on the go.
