12 Unbelievable Indie Games That Deserved Your Attention In 2013

5. Boson X (PC, iOS)

Showing off the sheer power that being noticed on YouTube has, Boson X burst on the indie scene in September after being featured heavily on the video sharing website. A devilish cross between Super Hexagon and an endless runner like Temple Run, Boson X has you controlling the player character, an unnamed scientist who dashes through his experiments in an attempt to discover new particles. Where it takes its inspiration is simple; like Temple Run, there are many gaps and other various pitfalls that try and stop you on your way to discovering that, while the control scheme and feel of the game is reminiscent of Super Hexagon. Thankfully, it's a combination that works superbly. With online leaderboards giving a real sense of competition above and beyond that which the game already gives you, Boson X proved to be one of the most addicting games of the year on PC, where it was free to play. It was a no-brainer then that it would migrate to the iOS platforms where its predecessors were birthed, a transition that in many ways felt natural and indeed, the touch screen UI allows better control of your character in a way that could sometimes hinder and frustrate you in the PC version. Six levels may not seem like much, but in terms of the replay value, you are always left feeling that if it weren't for one little mistake, you could have gone that little bit further on your personal record. And after all, what's the harm in giving it "just one more go" for the sixtieth time?
