The Pitch: Alone in the Dark goes co-op with Illumination, which sees up to four players fighting their way through a creepily abandoned village, fending off supernatural entities known as The Darkness. Randomly-generated locales will be used to keep things fresh and exciting. Players don't just have to settle for using guns, though: they can also pick a Witch or Priest character capable of using magic. Why Nobody Asked For It: Because the Alone in the Dark series hasn't been relevant since 2001's A New Nightmare (which was admittedly probably the best game in the series), and the last attempt to reinvigorate the series, 2008's reboot, was a flawed mess. Perhaps what's most shocking about the sixth Alone in the Dark game is the sheer lack of press and hype surrounding it: despite being due for release in November of this year, even fans of the series probably haven't heard of it because Illumination was quietly announced last month with little fanfare. It doesn't exactly scream a developer and publisher enthusiastic about the title they've made, and the fact that there's still no proper gameplay footage out (except for a few screenshots) is deeply troubling. After 2008's poor critical and commercial reception, it just seems like people aren't that interested in this franchise anymore. Expect a flop and nothing less.
