The Pitch: Set between the movies Alien and Aliens, Alien: Isolation follows Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda as she tries to recover the Nostromo's flight recorder, though finds herself being stalked by a Xenomorph. As is uncommon for the series, Isolation is a stealth game, in which combat is heavily discouraged in favour of fleeing and hiding from the Xenomorph, Why Nobody Asked For It: Because developers just can't seem to make many great Alien games for some reason. Take last year's Aliens: Colonial Marines, which looked fantastic but turned out to be a lazy mess and one of 2013's most disappointing titles. As much as everyone would like to see a great Alien game in theory, most stopped getting their hopes up at least 18 months ago, even if Isolation does in actual fact look like it could be a pretty snazzy effort. Visually it pops, and taking a page out of the Amnesia book seems to fit the atmospheric tone of the first movie perfectly, yet after the failure of Colonial Marines, many gamers are still feeling the franchise sting, and aren't necessarily ready to trust a developer, especially one as untested in the FPS genre as The Creative Assembly, to make a fun game. Hold out for the reviews on this one: it has the potential to be great, but when it comes to Alien video games, skepticism is a must in order to maintain your sanity.
