12 Upcoming Video Games That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
4. Crackdown 3
Release Date: February 22, 2019
It's not easy to be optimistic about Crackdown 3 considering its lengthy, bumpy development history. First unveiled at E3 2014, the game's presence has been suspiciously scant in recent years, with last year's E3 gameplay trailer suggesting the game had been substantially scaled-back from its original vision.
Microsoft mostly ignoring the much-hyped cloud destruction gimmick as of late has also led some fans to believe it's been removed from the game entirely, and that Crackdown 3 could end up being reintroduced as a Battle Royale-type game before its February release.
In the game's defence, though, the new E3 trailer this year looked decidedly more convincing than last year's: the visuals were sharper and it seemed to be leaning far more convincingly into the appealing presence of Terry Crews.
There are still countless reasons to be suspicious of the game being anything more than average, but perhaps all this time invested has been to ensure the final product lives up to expectations. After all, as Shigeru Miyamoto famously once said, "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
