12 Video Games You Presumed Were Massive Flops (That Really Weren't)

3. Superman 64

Easily one of the worst video games ever made, Superman 64 is a frequent punching bag for pundits and audiences alike, a shining example of how to get pretty much everything wrong in a game, from the ridiculous Kryptonite fog (a lame attempt to obscure world limitations), to the terrible controls and surprisingly dull gameplay. We'll let you off assuming this one was a flop: considering the absolutely tawdry reputation the game has, why would you assume any different? But in fact, Superman 64 was a solid seller right out of the gate: it still made the top seller's list during the month of its release (albeit at #9), and developer Titus confirmed that the game had become the third-best-selling game on the N64 a mere two months after its release. Lifetime sales are a little harder to come by, but clearly, the game was no flop, even if the prospect of a sequel had been completely derailed by the infamously negative reception.
