13. The Boss Battles - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
I vividly remember laughing uncontrollably when this game was announced, and not because it had Raiden in some completely over the top action sequences that would make the canon absurdity blush, but the name alone; Revengeance. Kojima loves making stuff up, trolling his own fan base, and generally being a loveable nutcase but when youre combining two synonyms together to create a cheesy word that heightens the theme of your story, you might have finally gone over the edge. Especially when your trailer is flashing the words Revenge, Vengeance, and Revengeance rapidly as if youre in a rave dancing to bright lights shining in every direction, all in some egotistical way of boasting that you have created a new word. Cheesy words like Revengeance and cyborg ninjas hopping between missiles are a recipe for success though in the idiosyncratic land of Metal Gear. Add in the fact that Platinum Games is developing the combat and boss fights, and we were in for something special that delivered. Cutting in any desirable direction, stylistically finishing off various cyborg and robotic enemies, multilayered cinematic boss fights, and a completely ludicrous story all made Revengeance stand out. Best Moment- By far, the games benchmark moment is simply any time youre tackling a boss battle. Whether its the climactic battle with Senator Armstrong, a duel to the death with Jestream Sam, a taming of a cyborg dog, or one of the other multiple excellent fights, these fights blew the dome off of our expectations regarding the level of quality a boss fight could have.
