2. Psycho Mantis (MGS 1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yojQxRp1V8Q Even today, it's hard to find a boss fight that's as perfectly executed as Psycho Mantis. Kojima used this boss fight to break the fourth wall in new and interesting ways that would later influence games like Eternal Darkness. By using the power of his mind (or in reality, the power of the Dual Shock's rumble motors) he would literally move your controller on the floor. Mantis also read your memory card and would even comment on saves from certain Konami games like Castlevania. This actually affected gameplay too, with players having to put the controller into port two because Mantis could somehow read the button inputs from the first port. For many, the Mantis fight is what turned Metal Gear Solid from a thoroughly decent game into a bloody amazing one that you just had to tell your mates about.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
