13 Infamous Mis-Steps That Ruined Iconic Gaming Characters

3. Prince Of Persia Lost Its Momentum

The original Prince Of Persia game was ground breaking at the time of its release for its rotoscoped graphics and realistic gameplay. Unlike other platformers the prince couldn't survive huge falls or leap several times his height. The realistic approach certainly made the game stand out from the pack, but it didn't have the same pick up and play quality of the more common cartoony games of the day. Prince Of Persia required skill, timing and if you wanted to complete the game you had to carefully learn what to do in each section to not fall victim to the many perils. The third game took a lot of cues from the style of Tomb Raider, which itself can be said to be a 3D version of a 2D Prince Of Persia game. Unfortunately Prince Of Persia 3D didn't play as well as Tomb Raider, nor did it star the video game sex symbol Lara Croft. The series would only really hit its stride with the release of The Prince Of Persia The Sand Of Time in 2003. A much more polished game than the previous 3D adventure, it bettered what Lara Croft had managed in her PS2 debut. This made people call for Tomb Raider to take cues from Prince Of Persia which it did when it came back for Tomb Raider Legend. After The Sands Of Time came The Warrior Within and The Two Thrones, both to critical acclaim, but the next game in the series which debuted on the Xbox 360 and PS3 didn't push the series further and whilst still a good game, didn't keep the momentum of the series going. There's only been one since which came out in 2010 to compliment the release of the Prince Of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Prince Of Persia The Forgotten Sands wasn't a bad game, but it hadn't improved upon the series since the PS2 days. It was almost as if the game only existed to fulfil the need to sell some games alongside the movie.
