13 Infamous Mis-Steps That Ruined Iconic Gaming Characters
10. Lemmings Couldn't Evolve In A 3D Age
The charm, cleverness and steep difficulty of Lemmings combined to be one of the most addictive games of the early nineties. The game's premise was simple; guide a hoard of marching lemmings from A to B whilst giving instructions a few individual lemmings to do a few basic moves that will prevent them walking off a ledge to their demise. After Lemmings came Oh No More Lemmings and the brilliant and underrated Lemmings 2: The Tribes, but unfortunately thereafter came the missteps in the history of Lemmings: All New World Of Lemmings was a shambles. The lemmings received a new look, lost most of their moves and now had baddies to contend with such as the Lemme Fatale. Only three of the twelve tribes featured and the game didn't see any direct sequels. 3D Lemmings was an ugly, hard to control nightmare of a game that just about sums up everything that was wrong with the time period in which classic 2D games all decided that they had to go 3D. Two flops in a row and Lemmings as a series lost any amount of hype or most importantly evolution in gameplay. Lemmings became a Playstation exclusive, but despite a new game every few years, they have never been shown much love or care from Sony. Every Lemmings game they've put out has been a re-tread of the original Amiga game. It's a shame Sony shows the little guys no love, because if they were marketed right and unleashed on the mobile market they could be bigger than Angry Birds.
