13 Infamous Mis-Steps That Ruined Iconic Gaming Characters

9. Turok Evolution And Turok (Reboot) Were Just Too Generic

The original Turok game on the Nintendo 64 was a moderate success: it was fun to roam around (in insane amounts of fog and pop up graphics) and kill dinosaurs, and was a highlight of the N64's launch period. A few months later Goldeneye happened and that really changed console FPS games. Turok 2 came out and had vastly improved graphics and controls and was over all a pretty good shooter and one of the highlight exclusives for the 64 bit Nintendo machine. When Turok made the leap to the next generation it went multiplatform and this may have proved a mistake for the series. Up to this point the games had all been Nintendo exclusives and there are a certain section of gamers who will buy games to be platform loyal. The Turok games had become stale so all they really had left to make them special was them being a Nintendo exclusive. When that stopped happening, Turok was just another generic multiplatform shooter. Acclaim, who developed Turok, soon went bust and that was the end of the series for several years. A reboot was released several years later, but was unrelated to the previous games in the series, and wasn't greatly received. It seems as if this hunter is just as extinct as his usual prey.
