13 Infamous Mis-Steps That Ruined Iconic Gaming Characters

7. Duke Nukem Forever Took Forever To Arrive

Duke Nukem is a pretty iconic character in the world of video games. He's a bad ass dude and was one of the early stars of the FPS genre, and made the leap from 2D to 3D better than most (to the point where many are unaware he started life in two dimensions). Duke Nukem Forever came out after a staggering fifteen years in development... and then it sucked. To be fair to the game, after all that wait it was impossible to live up to the hype, but it didn't even remotely live up to the even the lowest hopes for it. Duke is a character from a bygone era and the game played like a game from a bygone era to match. If the game had been released when it was first supposed to it would have been good, but not great, but by the time it arrived the mechanics and level design simply felt archaic. The funny hypocrisy of the situation is that if the game had originally came out when it was supposed to and then received an HD remake at the time it did eventually come out the reviewers would have been much kinder.
