13 Massively Hyped Upcoming Video Games That Will Totally Disappoint

3. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake
Square Enix

Release Date: TBA

The Hype: Final Fantasy VII is probably the game most requested for a remake over the years, and Square Enix finally caved in to players' demands two years ago when, at E3 2015, they confirmed the game's existence. It's one of the greatest games ever made by just about any metric, so to see it spruced up with gorgeous new graphics and gameplay is pretty much any RPG fan's dream come true.

Why It'll Disappoint: If you take away the undeniable nostalgic pull this game has, it's going to be extremely different from the original 1997 game, and not merely visually. For starters, the turn-based combat is being reworked to more closely resemble the "real time" action of the more recent Final Fantasy games, and it's also been confirmed that many plot elements will be "re-imagined" to more comfortably fit within 2017.

Oh, and the game is being chopped up into several episodes in order to bleed more money out of a fanbase they can't stop exploiting, so even if the game's great, your wallet's going to be down a lot more money than it really should be.

Yes, expectations are high, but then again, remaking arguably the best RPG ever made shouldn't be undertaken lightly.
