2. Fallout 76 Gets Panned By Fans & Critics
Oh boy. Even if you were sceptical of Bethesda's ability to deliver on an always-online multiplayer Fallout game, you surely didn't expect it to turn out this bad.
Fallout 76 was instantly torn asunder by the press and players alike for its empty world devoid of NPCs, piecemeal story, lack of mission variety, atrocious technical performance and always-online connectivity.
While mildly entertaining if played with a group of friends, otherwise the game is dangerously close to broken and, worst of all, just not a lot of fun.
On top of all this, the negative reception led to Fallout 76 tanking in sales and quickly being reduced in price, before Bethesda infamously shipped out low-quality nylon bags to those who splashed out $200 on the game's Power Armour edition.
It's an epic PR blunder for a studio that's probably coasted on fan goodwill and a janky, outmoded engine for far too long.
Given that both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI are reportedly being developed on the very same Creation Engine, it's safe to say that expectations just went way, way down.
