13 Severely Underrated Horror Games You Must Play For Halloween
2. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
This one's a bit of a cheat as, technically speaking, it falls more into the action-RPG genre than straight-up horror, but hey - it's got vampires, it's got werewolves... there's all kinds of demonic beasties here. If there's a better time to fire up this bad boy than Halloween, I'm not seeing it. Dropping you into a world where creatures of the night roam Los Angeles in search of jugular spray, Bloodlines presents you with several vampire classes to choose from, and each has a unique set of powers and abilities that affect your playstyle on a drastic level - selecting the Nosferatu clan for instance, means that you'll have to stick to the shadows and sewers to avoid violating the 'Masquerade', while the Toreador can use their impossible good looks to manipulate NPCs into doing basically whatever they want. And then there are the Malkavians - vampires so insane that's it practically a superpower in itself. Don't let that put you off though, because there's hours of fun in experimenting with Malkavian dialogue (some of the available options are so bat-s**t that it's hilarious). It's all very RPG-ish, but make no mistake - the world of Vampire: The Masquerade is pretty damn scary when you get right down to it, and the segment which sees you exploring an abandoned hotel will have you sleeping with the light on for weeks. And that's without mentioning the werewolf chase in the latter half...
