13 Severely Underrated Horror Games You Must Play For Halloween

1. Clive Barker's Undying

For what my crummy little opinion's worth - Clive Barker's not only among the top three greatest horror writers of the 21st century, but of all time. I don't know which hellish realm he plucks his ideas out of, but the man's committed some of the most horrifying scenarios to paper, so you can only imagine the kind of stuff he'd get up to with the interactivity of gaming at his blood-soaked fingertips. Undying was the author's first foray into the digital realm, and Mr. Barker really brought his A-game. With a heady mix of gunplay and magic, Undying tells the story of Patrick Galloway's quest to rid his friend's estate of a demonic curse. It's all too common nowadays for developers to fumble in their attempts at 'horror' by skimping on the scares and overdosing on the action, but Undying married the two disparate elements of gameplay beautifully - with a duel-wielding system that allows players to carry a gun in one hand and cast magic with the other, Undying delivered a surprisingly layered FPS experience that relied on strategy as much as reflexes. But all the bang-bang in the world won't amount to anything if the monsters are about as scary as a headless teddy bear, and the creatures in Undying do not disappoint - these ugly freaks could only have come from the same mind that spawned Pinhead and erotic stimulation via meat hooks. Maybe you'd already heard of Undying. Maybe not. Whatever the case, now's the perfect time to take it out for a spin. Which horror games will you be playing this Halloween?
