2. Tutorial - Driver

At least the other games on this list gave you a few hours of gaming goodness before the bulls*** began, but not the iconic PS1 racing game Driver.

The opening tutorial mission is so dementedly difficult that a lot of players never even got past it, or at least spent an unhealthy amount of time doing so.

Trapped in an underground parking structure, you have to perform a number of vaguely-described driving tricks with no help whatsoever. Seriously, what kid in 1999 knows what the hell a "slalom" is?

Tutorials are supposed to be impossibly easy introductions to a game's core mechanics, but here players were thrown in at the deep end, and ironically the game was probably never more difficult.
