13 Video Game Characters You Didn't Realise Were Based On Real People

1. Balrog - Mike Tyson

Hardcore fans of the Street Fighter series will know that three of the games' main villains - M. Bison, Balrog and Vega - went through quite possibly the biggest name switcheroo in the history of video games. Bison's original name was Vega, Vega's was Balrog, and Balrog's was M. Bison. It's weird to think about it now, right? But hang on, doesn't the name M. Bison sound kind of like Mike Tyson, and isn't Balrog also a hard-hitting black American boxer with a missing front tooth? Yes, Balrog's original name was Mike Bison, and it's thought that the main reason for the name switch between the bosses was because Capcom was worried about getting sued by Iron Mike. Sure, Balrog is a fair bit bigger than the famously short Iron Mike, and doesn't have a special biting move, but other than that he's a walking homage to the baddest man on the planet.
